Media release from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

D3 / 14 February 2005

Sixteen of Australia's senior Heads of Mission (HOMs) in Europe will visit Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and regional areas of Australia from 14-22 February.

The HOMs are meeting to evaluate Australia's strategic foreign and trade policy directions in Europe; the opportunities Europe provides and the challenges it presents.

These HOMs have an outstanding depth of expertise on changes underway in Europe, Europe's growing international weight in global affairs and the implications of these developments for Australia's interests. Their discussions will develop new initiatives for moving forward Australia's priorities with Europe.

The HOMs will spend two days in Canberra (15 - 16 February) before travelling to Sydney (17 February) and Melbourne (18 February) to consult with business, state government and academic interlocutors. In Sydney and Melbourne, they will participate in business breakfasts on the topic 'Doing Business with Europe'.

From 21-22 February, several of the HOMs will meet with local businesses and government in regional NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania, to discuss trade opportunities with Europe.
