MTA Press Office (212) 878-7440

Full Closures of the Rockaway Branch this Weekend

MTA New York City Transit announces weekend service diversions affecting the Rockaway Branch of the A line over the upcoming October 20-22 weekend. The service diversions will facilitate track maintenance work between the Rockaway Boulevard and Howard Beach-JFK Stations and rehabilitation work on the South Channel Bridge, which Rockaway Branch trains use to travel between Broad Channel and the Rockaway Peninsula. This requires the full closure of the Rockaway Branch on the October 20-22 weekend.

Three fare-free shuttle bus routes will provide service to and from the Rockaways between the hours of 11:30 p.m. Friday and 4:45 a.m. on Monday:

  • Shuttle Bus No. 1 will operate non-stop between the Rockaway Boulevard and Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue Stations.
  • Shuttle Bus No. 2 will operate between the Rockaway Boulevard and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 th Street Stations, stopping at Cross Bay Boulevard and Noel Road in Broad Channel and at Rockaway Beach Boulevard's intersections with Beach 98 th Street and Beach 105 th Street.
  • Shuttle Bus No. 3 will operate between the Rockaway Boulevard and Howard Beach-JFK Stations, stopping at the Aqueduct Racetrack and Aqueduct-North Conduit Stations.
  • A special subway shuttle route will operate between the Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 th Street Stations, serving all stations on the Rockaway Peninsula.

A line service to Lefferts Boulevard will not be affected by this work.

Notices have been posted in all affected stations and make train crews will make announcements on all trains informing customers of these temporary service changes. NYC Transit personnel will be on hand in order to assist customers.www.mta.info/weekender. They may also sign up for free text and e-mail alerts at www.mta.info.
