CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - About 500 federal employees will work
in service agencies Friday, Aug. 24, during the Greater
Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign's 20th Annual
Day of Caring.
"The Day of Caring is a great way to start the campaign,"
said John McCormick, chair of the 2012 Chattanooga Area CFC
and TVA's senior vice president of River Operations and
Renewable Power. "This year's theme is 'Make It
Count' and that's exactly what we intend to do today - make
our efforts count for our communities."
Employees will provide hands-on assistance for various
requested projects - such as painting, building, cleaning,
landscaping and cooking - to 45 projects at 36 area
non-profit service agencies that receive contributions from
the Combined Federal Campaign.
The Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign includes
about 8,600 federal employees at TVA and other agencies in
21 counties in East Tennessee, Northeast Alabama, Northwest
Georgia and Western North Carolina. Since 1987, gifts
have totaled more than $36 million.
Each year, federal employees have the opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human service organizations of their choice through the Combined Federal Campaign. Established 51 years ago as a result of President Kennedy's efforts, the Combined Federal Campaign has become the nation's leading workplace giving program, raising more money for charity than any other annual employee-giving program.
