CANYON, Texas-The Alternative Energy Institute (AEI) at West Texas A&M University will celebrate 35 years of operation with a special event from 2-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at the Palo Duro Research Center in Canyon.
An amateur talent show will entertain guests and serve as a fund raiser for AEI. Entry information can be obtained by calling 806-651-2295 or emailing kperkins@wtamu.edu. The Institute also will conduct a silent auction during the event with items that include a Skystream home wind turbine, Thai Kitchen gift certificates, relics of AEI history and many other items. The AEI staff invites the Canyon, Amarillo and Panhandle communities to attend. Hot dogs and soft drinks will be available for a small donation. Activities will be provided for families with small children.
The Alternative Energy Institute was established at WTAMU in 1977 as an outgrowth of wind energy research began in 1970. AEI's mission is to conduct research and development in the use of alternative sources of energy including wind, solar and biomass. AEI's program includes data collection, research and feasibility studies, developing and testing prototype systems, establishing a center for collection and distribution of information and education of students and others through research, seminars and courses.
