Sunday will see approximately 88 trainees travel from their respective clubs to scenic Hawks Nest on the NSW Mid North Coast to participate in the 2012 NSW/ACT PGA Trainee Championships.

This year will be the fifth consecutive year that Hawks Nest Golf Club has hosted the event, with a prize purse of $35,000 on offer in 2012. Head Professional Steve Denning and his staff have been busy preparing the club and course for the event and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Trainee's who will be kicking off their week participating in the sponsor's Pro-Am on Sunday.

"We are excited to again have the opportunity to host the Championships and showcase our club and the town of Hawks Nest to those travelling from both within NSW and interstate" Denning said.

The event not only boosts the profile of the golf club to the participants of the tournament but also injects a considerable economic benefit to local restaurants, cafes and accommodation within the area.

With a quality field of players entered, the fight for the title of 2012 Champion will be tight. Trainee's expected to be in contention for the title include last year's winner David Abbott (NSW) and current OOM leader's in their respective states; Kyle Grant (NSW) and Jack Wilson (VIC).

Grant from Terrey Hills Golf Club has had an impressive run so far this year with a State Championship (QLD), two Trainee Pro-Am and four Trainee Match titles under his belt, along with a second placing at the Southern Championships which he fell down to after losing the play off on the final day of competition.
Grant will certainly be the one to watch at this year's event.

Local players in the event include Toronto Golf Clubs Clayton Bridges and Justin Martin and Charlestown Golf Club's Jamie Hook and Mitchell Kellehear.

The Championships run from Monday the 20th to Thursday the 23rd of August. A two tee start will be used on all days of competition with the field cut to the leading 50 professionals plus ties after two rounds.
