The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to the Holly Shores / Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach Master Plan Project Kick Off and Community Workshop on Monday, August 20, 2012, at 6:00pm, at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center Auditorium, 600 River Street. The master plan will serve as a guide for implementing the planning for this parkland site. The purpose of the workshop will be to introduce the design team, present the master plan process, schedule, and to discuss project opportunities.
"We know that this project has a lot of folks excited about the future vision for parks in the area immediately east of I-35," says Chris Yanez, Principal Planner for the project, "so we are inviting anyone who is interested to come and participate in this important part of the master plan process."
Community workshop participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide input, and receive printed materials pertaining to the project. The master plan area consists of City of Austin parkland along the northern shore of Lady Bird Lake from I-35 east to Pleasant Valley Road and south of Canterbury Street, including a portion of the Holly Power Plant that will become future dedicated parkland.
In September 2008, the Austin City Council passed a resolution that reallocated funds from the Holly Good Neighbor Program to develop a master plan for approximately ninety (90) acres including Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach, Fiesta Gardens and the future Holly Power Plant site parkland.
The Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) will work with a team of consultants led by Michael Van Valkenburgh & Associates Inc. (MVVA) to engage the community and plan the future of this important public space. PARD and the consultants will work with the community in a series of public meetings including community workshops, a youth-oriented event, focus group sessions and updates in order to shape the future vision of this planning area.
