On July 25, the fourth Cross-Straits Pharmaceutical Forum was
held in the city of Taipei, Taiwan to promote cross-straits
exchanges and cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry.
More than 300 guests attended the forum, including government
officials, experts, scholars and representatives from
enterprises across the straits.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum, Bian Zhenjia,
Deputy Director of the State Food and Drug Administration,
said that the Cross-Straits Pharmaceutical Forum was now
playing an increasingly important role in enhancing
regulation and cooperation in the cross-straits
pharmaceutical industry.
The development trend of the cross-straits health food and
health industry was discussed as a main topic at the
forum.
Following the theme of "New Opportunities for Cross-Straits
Health Products Industry Cooperation", the forum was
sponsored by the Health Products and Cosmetics Association of
Fujian Province, the Xiamen Pharmaceutical Association, the
Chinese Herbs & Biotech Development Association and the
Taipei Biotechnology Industry Association.
In recent years, the implementation of the official
Development Plan of the West Side of the Straits Economic
Zone and the signing of the Cross-Straits Medical and Health
Cooperation Agreement have ushered in many new opportunities
for further cooperation between the two sides of the
Taiwan-Straits.
Within the framework of the Cross-Straits Medical and Health
Cooperation Agreement, four working groups have been
organized, including the medicine group, the medical
equipment group, the health food group and the cosmetics
group. Many high-level visits, seminars and inspection
activities across the Taiwan-Straits have already been
conducted.
The 2012 Taiwan Biotech Exhibition and the Cross-Straits
Biotech Industry Business Meeting were also staged in
conjunction with the pharmaceutical forum to broaden the
channel for cooperation in cross-straits projects.
At the biotech exhibition, a pavilion was set up as a display
window for mainland health products. Chinese herbal
medicines, health food, cosmetics and medical equipment were
displayed in the pavilion.
The fifth Cross-Straits Pharmaceutical Forum will be held in
Xiamen next year, centering on the development of
cross-straits medical equipment. The Cross-Straits
Pharmaceuticals Exposition will also be held during the next
forum, serving as an important platform for closer
cooperation between the two sides of the Taiwan-Straits.
