SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (July 2, 2012) - Go Daddy once again helped more new customers secure their websites with SSL Certificates than any other provider, according to Netcraft's latest Secure Server Survey. Go Daddy added nearly seven thousand certificates, topping the list of certificate authorities for the 37th time out of the last 55 months.
"Go Daddy entered the SSL certificate space eight years ago for the same reason we became a domain name registrar and hosting provider," said Go Daddy CEO Warren Adelman. "We saw a market that was under-served, an area where we could make a difference and help customers looking to build an online presence. Having a secure website doesn't have to be complicated or expensive and I think that's the reason for our rapid growth."
SSL Certificates protect website information by encrypting data sent and received, assisting in keeping the information secure. That is why it is vital for banks, online stores or other sites exchanging personal information to use an SSL certificate for their visitors.
In the last two years, as more businesses, schools and individuals needed to secure their sites, SSL Certificates have grown and are recognized as a fundamental piece of a secure website.
For instance, as schools, colleges and universities have moved more services online, the institutions needed a way to transmit information securely. Go Daddy secure certificates are used by many educational institutions, both international and domestic, to help secure their websites.
SSL certificates provide website security through server-to-browser encryption and keep company information, customer data and financial transactions secure. The visual reassurance customers and employers see with an SSL certificate - the "https" prefix, a green address bar on EV SSL certs and padlock icon - tells users they are working with a legitimate company and their information is safe.
Go Daddy is the largest hosting provider of secure websites in the world.
