The city of Phoenix is sponsoring the eleventh annual "Back to School and Health Fair" from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at ASU Prep Academy, 735 E. Fillmore St. in downtown Phoenix.
Thanks to numerous sponsors, visitors to the Back-to-School and Health Fair can get free immunizations courtesy of the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, health screenings, dental and visual check-ups and hair cuts. The first 1,000 children, accompanied by a parent or/guardian also will receive free backpacks with school supplies. There will also be free mammograms by Pink 365. Appointments for mammograms can be made by calling Pink at 1-888-233-6121. Pink exams are first-come, first-served.
Participants also will be able to gather useful information from more than 60 organizations on after-school programs, health, nutrition, education, school registration, finance, voting/registration, vital records, and water safety. A panel discussion about challenges affecting the surrounding community will cap off the event.
The free admission event is made possible by the generous financial sponsorships of the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Arizona, APS, Bank of America, Phoenix 11, Telemundo, Radio Campesina, Mega 104.3, Water Mill Express, Maricopa County of Public Health, Maricopa Integrated Health Systems and Pizza Patron.
The Back to School and Health Fair is produced by the city's Latino Institute, an interdepartmental volunteer team whose mission is to promote healthy living, safe communities, and education and understanding of Latino Culture, its contributions to society and its challenges for the future.
