ST. LOUIS, June 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) today released its 2011 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability Report. The report details the company's progress and challenges as it supports the needs of smallholder and large-scale farmers throughout the world as they work to produce more and conserve more from each acre of farmland, and work to improve the lives of people they serve.

Monsanto's 2011 Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Report focuses both on how the company operates its business and how it is working with partners to meet the challenge of growing food to meet the needs of the projected nine billion people expected to inhabit the world by 2050.

The content of this year's report was developed following the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines for sustainability reporting. The GRI is a sustainability reporting framework that helps companies measure and report their sustainability performance. This year's report was submitted to the GRI, and the report was provided an Application Level Check. This confirmed Application Level C for Monsanto's 2011 Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Report. Application Levels reflect the degree of transparency against the GRI Guidelines in reporting. In addition to GRI reporting, the company's 2011 report also labels content in line with the United Nations Global Compact, the world's largest sustainability and corporate citizenship initiative. Monsanto joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2009.
