FRANKFORT, Ky.(June 22, 2012) - Saturday, June 30 will be the last day the Old State Capitol will be open to the public this summer before closing for major renovations.

The Kentucky Division of Historic Properties will repair all the windows in the building, restoring the sashes and installing new interior storm windows with ultra violet filters. This project will help preserve this National Historic Landmark building for future generations.

The Old State Capitol is operated by the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) and final tours will be offered Wednesday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., with an additional tour Thursday at 4:30 p.m. All tours begin at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History at 100 W. Broadway in downtown Frankfort. The Old State Capitol is expected to reopen for tours in September, although construction will continue throughout the fall.

The Old State Capitol has been home to the KHS exhibition "Great Revivals: Kentucky Decorative Arts Treasures" since 2009. More than 16,000 visitors toured the building in 2011. The exhibition and guided tours will resume when renovations are complete.
