Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, statement on ordinations to the priesthood for The Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter
June 23, 2012
"It is with great joy that I offer my prayerful
congratulations to the new priests ordained for The Personal
Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.
It was just over a year ago, that the St. Luke Community in
Bladensburg, Maryland announced their intention to become
Catholic, and last October, I had the pleasure of receiving
the community of approximately 80 into the Church along with
their pastor, Mark Lewis. Today, I am pleased to welcome
Father Mark Lewis as a priest in The Personal Ordinariate of
the Chair of St. Peter.
Father Richard Kramer serves as the Associate Director for
Evangelization and Family Life for the Archdiocese of
Washington, where his work includes developing leaders for
parish ministry; overseeing marriage preparation programs and
natural family planning; and initiatives that strengthen
family life.
Ordained today alongside Father Lewis and Father Kramer is
Father Ed Meeks, pastor of Christ the King in Towson, a
former Anglican community that will be welcomed into the
ordinariate tomorrow.
The ordination of these new priests is not only a sign that
the ordinariate is flourishing, but it is also a significant
step towards greater Christian unity and is further
recognition of our shared beliefs on matters of
faith."
