For the last two weeks, visitors have had the chance to see coral ecosystems come to life in a special mini-dome presentation in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. Coral: Rekindling Venus, an installation by artist Lynette Wallworth that brings to light the beauty and plight of coral communities, will be on view through Sunday, June 24.
Dr. Anya Salih, a scientist at the University of Western Sydney who photographed coral for this installation, visited the Museum for the Milstein Science Series program about the Great Barrier Reef earlier this month. She recently shared some details about her studies of coral fluorescence and how fluorescent proteins can be used in biomedical research or to suggest directions for greener energy production.
Coral: Rekindling Venus is on view in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life through June 24, 2012.
