Momentive's Louisville Site Goes "Idle Free"
LOUISVILLE, KY., June 22, 2012 - Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. ("Momentive Specialty Chemicals" or the "Company") announced that its Louisville facility recently became "idle free." Momentive's idle free initiative is in cooperation with the Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District and its outreach and education program, Kentuckiana Air Education (KAIRE).
As part of this commitment to reduce unnecessary engine idling, Momentive associates and suppliers are being asked to turn off their vehicle engines whenever possible while on-site. For example, Momentive's plant policy now requests that drivers do not let their vehicle engines idle for more than 10 seconds while on facility grounds. This commitment is part of the Company's overall sustainability initiatives focused on fostering sound environmental and business practices.
"Ensuring that our facilities operate safely and efficiently, while minimizing our environmental impact, conserving resources and reducing waste is critical to our future," said Jeff Anderson, Louisville site leader, Momentive Specialty Chemicals. "Becoming an idle free facility is one of the many ways we are living up to this commitment."
The average truck driver wastes at least $70 per year just sitting still with the engine idling, according to KAIRE. Unnecessary idling also contributes to air pollution, which makes it difficult for children and adults with breathing problems.
