Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden now offers a new amenity that will make a new mother's visit to the Zoo more comfortable and worry free.

The Nursing Nook, located in the Kley Building, recently opened to provide a private and climate controlled room where nursing mothers can feed their baby and entertain any older children in private.

The Nursing Nook was supported by the grant Communities Putting Prevention to Work, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the move•ment and Upgrade campaigns, and The Women's Hospital.

Data collected from births at The Women's Hospital in Newburgh indicate that during their hospital stay, between 75 percent and 80 percent of new mothers choose breastfeeding. Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden's goal is to accommodate these families and give them the best overall experience possible when they visit.
