The Timberwolves Dancers will tour Spain over the next two
weeks, bringing the Timberwolves brand to the home country
of Wolves rookie Ricky Rubio. The trip is part of the
inaugural NBA 3X Tour, a 16-week event co-sponsored by the
NBA and BBVA that will feature interactive basketball
activities, highlighted by a countrywide 3-on-3 basketball
tournament.
"This is a tremendous honor for our team,"
Timberwolves Dancers Director Natalie Alvarado said.
"The girls are incredibly excited to represent the
Timberwolves organization and the NBA in front of the great
basketball fans in Spain."
The NBA 3X Tour, which began this past weekend, travels
throughout Spain for 16 weeks, culminating in Barcelona for
the NBA 3X National Finals on October 8-9. The Timberwolves
Dancers will perform beginning Thursday, June 21 in Madrid
and then travel to Zaragoza for more performances.
This year's tour marks the Timberwolves Dancers'
fourth international trip in recent years, and first visit
to Spain. Last year the team traveled to China, taking part
in the Guangdong Mobile Tour. The team began their
international tours by performing as part of the NBA's
Jam Van Asian Tour in 2006, making stops in Shanghai and
Nanjing. The dancers also accompanied the Wolves to France
in the fall of 2010 as part of the league's NBA Europe
Live preseason schedule that saw the Wolves take on the New
York Knicks in Paris.
