The NSW Police Airwing will show their support for Red Nose Day by participating in a fundraising event at Richmond today.

Red Nose Day is an annual fundraiser for the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Association and will be held on Friday 29 June 2012.

'SIDS and Kids' is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood and provides vital services and programs within the Australian community.

The NSW Police Force continues to show their support for this worthy cause and working in partnership with Richmond High School to help raise funds for the charity.

To celebrate their 10th consecutive year of involvement with Richmond High School a police helicopter has undergone a nose job and will attend the school at 10:15am today.

Commander of the Aviation Support Branch, Detective Superintendent Mark Noakes, said Polair is proud to support the ongoing commitment by the Richmond High School on Red Nose Day to raise awareness on the important issue of SIDS.

"Polair 4, our newest helicopter, has undergone some minor cosmetic surgery and will be sporting a red nose.

"Officers on board the helicopter will conduct a fly-over of Richmond High School and take photographs of the students who will be in formation on the oval.

"By conducting various displays we know that many kids love our police helicopters and we are proud to be involved in the promotion of this important event and meet the students," said Detective Superintendent Noakes.

Deputy Principal, Mrs Leiza Lewis, from Richmond High School said 800 students will form a red nosed caterpillar to mark Red Nose Day. They will also be involved in a number of fundraising activities throughout the day including a staff versus students sporting match.

"This year students have set a fundraising target of $40,000 and I ask everyone to dig deep into their pockets and donate to this worthy cause.

"To date Richmond High School has raised more than $500,000 through fundraising activities for Red Nose Day," said Mrs Lewis.
