Almost 300 Hyland employees volunteer to restore a Positive Education Program school as part of the HandsOn Leap Year Campaign
CLEVELAND - June 14, 2012 - Every four years, we get an
extra day. A bonus 24 hours tacked on in February each leap
year to spend as we please. To make the most of that
additional day this year, Hyland Software partnered
with HandsOn
Northeast Ohio and participated in their Leap Year
Campaign, a program created to encourage volunteerism in
our community.
Almost 300 Hyland employees will be painting classrooms,
cleaning lockers and landscaping today, Thursday, June 14th
and tomorrow, Friday, June 15th in an effort to restore the
Margaret Ireland Elementary School, a former Cleveland
Municipal school building that will soon become a Positive Education
Program (PEP) school.
"PEP is an amazing organization that serves one of our
community's most valuable resources - our children," said
Lisa Johnson, Hyland's corporate responsibility manger. "We
are so proud that one of the largest volunteer projects in
Hyland's history is going to help the 100 PEP students who
will be attending this school in August. And we're grateful
to HandsOn for aligning us with such an amazing local
organization."
Volunteers are fulfilling the Leap Year Campaign volunteer
day in June, but Hyland employees first helped out by
opening up their wallets in February. In just two weeks
Hyland raised their goal of $75,000 to purchase educational
technology, like interactive whiteboards, that will enhance
learning for all PEP students.
"It's amazing how this one extra day has brought so much
good to our PEP kids," said Dr. Frank Fecser, PEP's chief
executive officer. "We are extremely grateful to the Hyland
employees who are giving their extra day to our PEP
students through their gifts of time, talent and
dollars."
"We are proud to have partnered with Hyland and PEP in this
amazing volunteer experience," said Jeff Griffiths,
executive director of HandsOn Northeast Ohio. "Hyland's
employees really show the impact volunteer projects,
organizations and individuals can have on the community.
These people will have a lasting effect on every child who
attends the new PEP school."
