Sarasota, FL: The inaugural Sarasota Sports Festival, Saturday, June 16, 2012
8 a.m. - 3 p.m at Payne Park, 2050 Adams Lane, will be filled with free family activities throughout the day, including the opening of the new circus themed playground. Families are encouraged to visit the various sporting events and test their aptitudes. Sporting equipment will be provided. Completed registration forms will be a required to participate.
Schedule of Activities
• Registration: Each person participating in an event will be required to complete a participation form.
• 1 mile fun run/walk
• STRIDER bike parade
• STRIDER bicycling
• BMX
• Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey special performance at the playground
• Bootcamp group exercise class
• Skateboarding
• USTA 10 & Under Tennis
• Teddy Tennis (3-6 years old)
• Disc Golf
• BMX demonstration
• Zumba group class
NOON
• Yoga group class
• Aerobic tennis
• Tai Chi group class
• Live music - Matt Gerhardt and Undertow
• BMX demonstration
• Zumba group class
About the scheduled activities:
BMX/STRIDER:BMX professionals Eli Rice and Percy Owens will
sign autographs throughout the day. Make sure you check out
the Sarasota BMX
Strider Adventure Zone, where children
18-months to 5-years-old will take balance bikes (two wheels
with no pedals) for a spin over terrain and around obstacles.
STRIDER is considered to be the most effective method of
teaching balance to children 18-months to 24-months-old.
Disc Golf:The Sarasota Sky
Pilots Disc Golf Club will have a 3-hole
disc golf course set up for the public to play. Discs will be
provided and local players will be on hand to demonstrate
proper form and provide pointers. Putting contests also will
be held throughout the day. The leading point earners will
win a prize!
Skateboarding:The Skate Park
will be free and open to the public.
Skateboarding and
BMX demonstrations will be held throughout the day at this
world class facility.
Teddy Tennis:Introduce your little ones, ages 3-6, to tennis
in a fun, creative way! Through the use of music, pictures
and teddy bear stories, Teddy Tennis
encourages children to be active and develop
coordination skills plus self confidence. Developed in
England, the first Teddy Tennis franchise in Florida was
launched right here in Sarasota. Find out why children are
falling in love with tennis!
Morton's Market, Evie's and Smoothie King will be selling
food and drinks all day. (Complimentary water will be
provided to those participating in sporting events.) A vendor
village will host dozens of local businesses affiliated with
sports and wellness.
