Long & Foster® Real Estate Inc., the largest independent residential real estate company in the United States, today announced that the sales associates and staff from its Springfield, Va., office, located at 7202 Old Keene Mill Rd., in Springfield, Va., will spend the 15th annual companywide Community Service Day on June 6 working to make major home improvements to the residence of an area woman who lives alone and is blind.
"Just imagine living alone, being legally blind, unable to maintain your yard. The roof over your head leaks, the gutters have fallen off, lights may or may not work because you no longer use them so you wouldn't know if they worked or not. In addition, your faucets are not just dripping but running and you don't have the financial means to hire someone to address these problems," said Jon Wolford, managing associate broker for Long & Foster's Springfield sales office.
"This is the plight of a woman right here in our own community and we at the Long & Foster Springfield office are committed to get her home back in shape as our Community Service Day project."
According Wolford, the project will also serve as an important mechanism for increasing awareness about the necessity for communities to come together and support their neighbors in need. He encourages members of the community and from local businesses who can and will commit to offering manpower, financial aid or the donation of supplies to help support the project to do so.
"This is an important long-term effort that truly has the potential to bring an entire community together. We are grateful for the outpouring of support we have already received in terms of financial aid from the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors and a charitable fund organized by a local church, and the donations of volunteer labor and supplies from several of the vendors who participate in Long & Foster's Home Services Connections," he said.
"The Springfield office's project is just one of many that will take place throughout the Long & Foster footprint on June 6 we are proud that Jon and his team are taking the lead within their community to demonstrate our company's long-standing commitment to the communities we serve," said Jeffrey S. Detwiler, president and chief operating officer of The Long & Foster Companies. "Our sales associates and staff gain a tremendous sense of personal satisfaction by contributing their time, money and effort. Our many community service programs make a powerful statement about Long & Foster's spirit, commitment and concern," he added.
