National Grid will be working seven days a week and late into the night when required to ensure a vital gas mains upgrade is delivered as smoothly as possible.
The vital project involves replacing over 300 metres of ageing metallic gas mains with tough new plastic pipes in Hindes Road and Radnor Road. The work will help ensure locals continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating. People will still be able to get in and out of their properties during the project and work will be carried out as follows:
Phase One: Monday 18 February for approximately one week
There will be a partial road closure in Hindes Road from the Harrow View/Headstone Road junction leading up to the Radnor Road/Welldon Crescent junction.
Phase Two: Monday 25 February for approximately three weeks
There will be a partial road closure at the Hindes Road junction with Radnor Road.
Route one: Hindes Road, Hamilton Road and Nibthwaite Road.
Route two: Hindes Road, Hamilton Road and Warrington Road.
Phase Three: Monday 18 March for approximately two weeks
Work will take place at the Radnor Road junction which leads onto Nibthwaite Road.
Project Engineer Nigel Daborn said: "It's our role to connect people to the energy they need and that's what we're doing with this project.
"We'll be working through the winter weather to make sure local homes, businesses and community facilities keep on enjoying the safe and reliable gas supplies to heat their homes or cook a warm dinner."
He added: "The work's been carefully planned to make sure it's delivered with minimal disruption."
Service pipes to some properties are also being replaced. To do this engineers need access to these properties and to temporarily disconnect their gas supply. Those affected will be notified in advance. People should always ask to see official identification from engineers before letting them into their property.
