- CEO Chung Joonyang, visits Technical Research Laboratories and Pohang Steelworks, strengthening skinship with field sites

CEO Chung Joonyang who always practices his field first policy emphasizing that `a company strong during crises must be strong in the field,` visited the Technical Research Laboratories of the Pohang R&D Center and the Coke Factory 1 on November 12th and 13th, encouraging researchers and employees committed to project research, operations, and innovation activities.

On the 12th at the Technical Research Center of the Pohang R&D Center, CEO Chung toured and demonstrated each of the 26 research achievements carried out by the project team researchers, encouraging them to produce great results. CEO Chung particularly stayed at the center for 9 hours, requesting that all researchers stay at the vanguard so that POSCO can accomplish a technology empire, wisely overcoming the recession and preoccupying opportunities.

The next day, CEO Chung, who visited the Pohang Steelworks Power Plant Division, encouraged employees in charge of producing the electricity necessary and those in charge of ventilation of furnaces 1 and 2.

He especially emphasized that electricity and furnace ventilation required to operate equipment of each factory are like the blood vessels of our body, and added to take pride in the work they do.

He also asked that the members put in more efforts to reduce energy consumption and continue efforts to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions and maximize power generation to prepare for the winter power shortage.
CEO Chung, who then arrived at Coke Factory 1, toured the factory environment and equipment cleaned by the efforts of employees, and complimented employees for their facility management and innovation activities. He mentioned that just 20 years ago the factory environment was not great, but now seeing it is pleasant, that he can feel the employees` love for their company and workplace, shaking hands with each employee and exchanging greetings.

CEO Chung emphasized that now, with the global economic depression hovering over the entire industry, and with the steel industry having excess supply, it is time to turn over a new leaf and show the underlying strength of a strong POSCO.

Accordingly, employees of the Power Plant Division and Coke Factory 1 formed a special relationship with CEO Chung Joonyang by each preparing a separate performance for him. CEO Chung plans to soon visit Gwangyang Steelworks to speak with employees there and take the time to encourage them for their hard work and breathe together with the field.
CEO Chung Joonyang has been strengthening field skinship by frequently visiting not only Pohang and Gwangyang Steelworks, but also each floor of the POSCO Center to freely exchange opinions with employees on current issues of company management, and listen to employees` difficulties.
