National Grid is reminding Londoners that the westbound carriageway of Shepherds Bush Green is now completely closed between Holland Park and the W12 Shopping Centre until Monday 25 February.
The closure was implemented as planned this week to enable engineers to carry out vital work to replace ageing metal gas mains with tough new plastic pipes.
To assist motorists signed diversions are in place as follows:
Motorists travelling westwards from Holland Park Avenue and Holland Road
Go up the A3220 West Cross Route, onto A40 Westway then Western Avenue, then Old Oak Road and Askew Road, before joining Goldhawk Road.
Traffic heading towards Hammersmith
Travel along Paddenswick Road, Dalling Road, left into Glenthorne Road onto Beadon Road.
Cyclists don't need to avoid the area as they can dismount around the closed area and resume their journey after walking past. The bus stops in Shepherds Bush Green have also been temporarily reduced and some local bus services have changed for the duration of this phase of work.
National Grid Construction Operations Engineer Patrick Nathan said: "We just want to remind people about the closure so motorists can plan ahead and adjust their routes accordingly. We're sorry about the inconvenience but this work will help ensure local homes, businesses and community facilities continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies."
Engineers are working seven days a week and extended hours to complete the job as soon as possible.
Work will continue in the area after February 25 for a further eight weeks. For more information on the work call 0800 096 5678.
The project forms part of National Grid's ongoing gas mains replacement programme which is carried out in agreement with the Health and Safety Executive.
