SAN DIEGO, Nov. 1, 2012 - CareFusion Corp. (NYSE: CFN), a leading, global medical technology company, today announced it recently received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its new Snowden-Pencer® take-apart laparoscopic scissors.

The scissors are the latest in CareFusion's line of take-apart laparoscopic surgical instruments and provide sterile, sharp blades and a new insulated shaft for each procedure. Designed for easy assembly and disassembly, the scissors feature an ergonomic, reusable ring-handle that also fits Snowden-Pencer take-apart clamps, dissectors and graspers. The handle is designed to reduce interoperative hand fatigue and accommodate a variety of hand positions for comfort and precision during surgery. Currently in limited market release, the new Snowden-Pencer laparoscopic scissors are expected to be commercially available in early 2013.

Snowden-Pencer take-apart scissors provide a fresh blade and insulated shaft for each use -reducing the need to clean and inspect the shaft and insulation - delivering potential cost savings compared to fully disposable scissors. Newly engineered and tested for use on various surgical materials and for consistent mixed hot and cold cutting without snagging, the scissors also come with the reassurance of a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

The 510(k) clearance covers Snowden-Pencer scissors in Metzenbaum, Mini-Metzenbaum and hook-blade configurations - in both 36 and 45 millimeter sizes.
