THE EMPIRE DISTRICT ELECTRIC COMPANY TO DEDICATE SUBSTATION 602 IN BOLIVAR
JOPLIN, MO - December 5, 2012 - The Empire District Electric Company will hold a ribbon cutting and dedication for its recently updated substation at 212 North Oakland Drive, Bolivar, Missouri, at 1 p.m. Monday, December 10.
Originally the site was a power plant serving the needs of the Bolivar community. Eventually the plant went out of service but a substation remained to distribute power to customers. Work began in April
2012 to completely renovate the substation with the latest in equipment, doubling the transformer capacity. The project utilized modern engineering design and enhanced digital control technology providing improved reliability for customers. Additionally, line crews added two new circuits from the substation to better isolate customers from outage events and provide increased flexibility.
"The improvements to Sub 602 allow for increased capacity with more reliability. The technology utilized provides our Bolivar-area customers protection from the effects of outages. The changes implemented were both cost effective and beneficial to our customers," explained Martin Penning, vice- president of commercial operations.
