Landmark luxury hotel renovated to enhance its historic splendour

An architectural jewel looking back on a long tradition of upscale hospitality, the Copacabana Palace is arguably the most luxurious hotel in Rio de Janeiro. The imposing building overlooking the famous Copacabana beach is a familiar part of the cityscape. For many decades this five-star hotel has accommodated the rich and famous of this world. From Fred Astaire and Marilyn Monroe to Marlene Dietrich, Orson Welles and the Rolling Stones, countless celebrities and luminaries have laid their heads to rest in this fine establishment. Completed in 1923, the Copacabana Palace combines nostalgic grandeur with modern glamour in a unique way. In preparation for its 90th anniversary, the hotel underwent a major renovation led by Paris-based interior designer Michel Jouannet. His brief was to modernise it while retaining its traditional charm. When it came to outfitting the bathrooms, GROHE water fittings and showers were selected on account of their classical grace and elegantly defined details which perfectly complement the renovated interior.

Palatial surroundings, newly restored splendour

The dazzling white neo-classicist facade of the Copacabana Palace and its art deco pool area ooze a glamorous and luxurious atmosphere. Stepping inside, travellers find themselves in a light-flooded, spacious lobby which was substantially enlarged as part of the recent renovation. Inspired by the "Negresco" in Nice and the "Carlton" in Cannes, French architect Joseph Gire designed the imposing building, whose most prestigious salon boasts a 14 metre high ceiling, in the 1920s. The structure offers ample space for the placement of carefully selected furniture and numerous original works of art, thereby emphasising the palatial character of the hotel and its festive atmosphere. In addition to the breathtaking view of the beach and the sea, numerous amenities including an exclusive spa area as well as two restaurants and bars are available to make every stay an unforgettable experience.

Exclusive art deco style from GROHE for bathrooms

Luxurious comfort is the characteristic quality of the Copacabana Palace's rooms and suites. A world removed from Rio's buzzing street life, they offer an exclusive refuge with direct access to the beach. A total of 145 hotel rooms and suites in the hotel's main building, including 90 bathrooms were modernised in harmony with the historic style of buildings and outfitted with the most advanced technology. When it came to selecting the water fittings for the bathrooms, the interior designers specified the Somerset series from GROHE on account of its elegant art deco design which reflects the hotel's impressive history and complements the stylish decor of the bathrooms. All faucets benefit from a GROHE StarLight® finish to protect them against scratching and soiling, allowing them to retain their brilliant lustre for many years to come. The perfect addition to the faucets is the shower line GROHE Rainshower® Rustic which combines authentic period design and state-of-the-art GROHE technology. The integrated GROHE DreamSpray® technology creates an equal flow of water through each and every single nozzle. A wide range of perfect spray patterns ensures maximum exhilaration.

At Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Palace, GROHE water fittings and showers help set the mood for an inspiring guest experience.
