BAD AXE, Mich. - DTE Energy will host a public meeting to provide Huron County residents with the opportunity to learn more about the process to handle their questions and concerns regarding the communications of the wind parks' future operations.
The meeting, resulting from an agreement between DTE Energy and the Huron County Board of Commissioners, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Franklin Inn in Bad Axe.
DTE Energy has two wind park projects underway in Huron County. The first, the Thumb Wind Park, is in three different locations in Huron and Sanilac counties. It is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
The Echo Wind Park, in the Elkton area, will begin construction next year and start operating by late 2013. The 139 wind turbines combined at all four locations will be capable of producing about 220 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
To meet the state's renewable energy goals, DTE Energy expects to add about 1,000 MW, or 10 percent of its power, from renewable energy by 2015. DTE Energy plans to own facilities to supply up to half of that power and contract with third-party producers for the rest.
