Compañía Cervecera de Canarias Reinforces its Commitment after Reducing Energy Consumption by 7% since 2009

23 October 2012

The company's environmental support is within its commitment with the sustainable development in which it has been working continuously

The company joins the celebration of the International Day of Energy Savings on Sunday 21st of October

Canary Islands, October 19th 2012.- Compañía Cervecera de Canarias managed to reduce its energy consumption by 7% within its policy of efficient management of the resources, a course of action that has become one of the priorities for the company. The company will join the celebration of the International Day of Energy Savings this Sunday.

Compañía Cervecera is making a big effort in terms of making an efficient use of the energy through a reduction of the impact that this entails, as well as the use of cleaner energy sources. With all this, the company wants to achieve a dual goal, focused in the achievement of economical and resource savings, and also, the reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases, contributing to the creation of a more sustainable development.

The actions carried out by Compañía Cervecera de Canarias allowed them to reduce the energy consumption by 4% last year, which currently stands at 130.54 Megajoules per hectolitre produced. Also, the constant implementation of those measures allows them to accumulate a reduction of around 7% in the last three years.

Another line of action of the efficient use of the energy is focused in the reduction of CO2 emissions. In this field, the data shows that last year there was a reduction of 6% in the use of fuel. The results obtained in the last three years show results much more significant, as a reduction of 30% in the emissions has been reached.

Compañía Cervecera considers that in order to keep the progress and even improve it, it's necessary to keep advancing in the improvement of the energy efficiency and it has taken the challenge of reducing the energy consumption up to 100 Megajoules per hectolitre of beer produced in 2020.

In order to do so, the company has at its disposal a wide program of activities directed to minimise the impact in the environment. In this sense, it develops a process of global approach to administer the energy and the emissions, and to do so they have taken into account the carbon print associated with the value chain. In this case, their actions are mainly focused in controlling aspects like bottle and packaging manufacture, the transport and refrigeration of products.

Other fields where it's working to implement the efficiency of the operations it focuses in the implementation of the measuring systems, the investment in new technologies, as well as raising awareness among the workers about a responsible use of natural resources.

In this area, Compañía Cervecera is carrying out an evaluation in the way the energy is being used and in the behaviours that should be introduced, as well as calculating the investment required for these implementations. Also, it keeps supporting the implementation of new goals that allows the company keep getting improvements in this area.

The new action plans in this case are focused on completing the analysis of consumption from individual facilities with the inclusion of new and more advanced registration systems.

The results obtained will allow the company to create new action plans to prioritise the implementation of measures with a bigger impact in the reduction of the consumption.
