CLEVELAND -, PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, today announced it will sponsor and chair the conference "Bioplastics: The Re-Invention of Plastics," which begins tomorrow and runs through June 15 in San Francisco.
In addition to serving as conference chairperson, Roger Avakian, vice president, scientific development at PolyOne, will present "High-Performance Biopolymers for Durable Applications" on June 14. Other speakers at this conference include experts from IBM, Coca-Cola, Sherwin Williams and Toyota.
Marcel Dartée, global marketing director for biosolutions at PolyOne, said, "With our Sustainability Promise, PolyOne has committed to building relationships with leaders in the bioplastics field and to helping customers grow their businesses with innovative, safe and environmentally sound solutions. We are proud to share breakthroughs with the industry and to demonstrate how these polymers can create new value for our customers."
As conference chairman, Avakian invited prominent authorities in the industry to highlight the newest trends and technical advances in biopolymers. "First-generation biopolymers primarily served single-use applications, but the focus increasingly is on sustainable solutions for durable applications. PolyOne is a leading innovator in this field, and together with our industry colleagues, will clarify the ways in which our emerging technologies support this trend."
Avakian's presentation will focus on recent developments with PolyOne's reSound™ bio-based materials and new reFlex™ bio-based plasticizers. To meet the needs of durable applications, reSound™ offerings combine engineering thermoplastics with bio-derived polymers such as PLA, PHA and biopolyesters. For non-phthalate flexible vinyl formulations, reFlex™ bio-based plasticizers leverage sustainable feedstocks and achieve better performance than traditional plasticizers in targeted applications.
Additional sustainable solutions from PolyOne include OnFlex™ BIO TPEs, OnColor™ BIO Colorants, and OnCap™ BIO Additives, including OnCap™ BIO Impact T, a transparent impact modifier for PLA.
