Indiana American Water Now Accepting Applications for 2013 Environmental Grant Program
Grants Available to Community Projects in Company Service Areas
GREENWOOD, IND. February 1, 2013 - Indiana American Water, a subsidiary of American
Water (NYSE: AWK), announced today that it is accepting applications for its 2013
Environmental Grant Program. Established in 2005, the program offers funds to eligible groups for innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and/or groundwater supplies through partnerships.
The program is designed to support diverse types of activities, such as watershed cleanups, reforestation efforts, biodiversity projects, streamside buffer restoration projects, wellhead protection initiatives and hazardous waste collection efforts.
"Ensuring we have clean water now and in the future is an important issue we can all do something about," said Indiana American Water President Alan DeBoy. "This program encourages municipalities, schools, environmental organizations and civic groups to apply for a grant that will benefit their watersheds and the communities we serve all across the state."
To qualify, a proposed project must:
Address a source water or watershed protection need in a community served by Indiana
Be completed between May 1, 2013 and November 29, 2013
Be a new or innovative program for the community, or serve as a significant expansion to an existing program
Be carried out by a formal or informal partnership between two or more organizations

Provide evidence of sustainability (continued existence after the Indiana American Water grant monies are utilized)

11, 2013 and mailed to Indiana American Water, 555 E. County Line Road, Greenwood, Ind., ATTN: Joe Loughmiller. Award recipients will be notified by April 12, 2013.
In 2012, a total of 28 projects throughout American Water's service areas in ten states were awarded grants totaling more than $180,000. Indiana American Water provided a total of more than $10,000 in support for the Wabash Park Department, Gary Storm Water Management District, Motivate our Minds in Muncie, Ind., and the Stage One Family Theatre in southern Indiana.
Projects will be judged based on criteria that include clarity of project goals and projected impact, strength of collaboration with other community and/or municipal organizations, and evidence that the project will provide sustainable environmental results after Indiana American Water's funding ends.
