Carbonite Brings Leading Cloud Backup to Comcast Business Services

February 20, 2013

Carbonite Business Now Available on the Upware Marketplace from Comcast Business

Boston - February 20, 2013 - Carbonite, Inc. (NASDAQ: CARB), a leading provider of cloud backup solutions for consumers and small businesses, announced it has been selected to participate with Comcast on Upware™ from Comcast Business, which launched today. Together, Carbonite and Comcast will deliver cloud solutions for small businesses that may be conveniently purchased and managed from one central location.

The Upware™ marketplace is a suite of cloud-based business solutions that can be purchased through one easy-to-use web portal. It contains a carefully selected list of third-party, cloud-based business applications from industry-leading companies in key categories such as data backup, data security, document collaboration and web collaboration. Upware is designed to meet the needs of small and medium businesses looking to use cloud-based solutions to simplify their IT systems, control costs and increase productivity.

Carbonite Business cloud backup solutions are designed specifically for small businesses.  Carbonite Business offers real-time automated computer backup, low flat-rate pricing and a variety of features designed to address the unique needs of small businesses, including budget, security and accessibility requirements.  Now, Comcast Business Class customers can purchase Carbonite Business directly on the Upware marketplace from Comcast Business, making it easy to ensure simple online backup is a part of their business' software suite.

"Carbonite is excited to partner with Comcast Business Services to ensure small businesses have access to the best cloud backup solutions available.  We see great synergies in our efforts to provide easy-to-use technology that enables small businesses to focus on what matters most - growing their business," said Peter Lamson, Senior Vice President of Cloud Backup, Carbonite.  "Small businesses generate crucial business data and documents but rarely have the resources or the time to protect it.  Carbonite Business and Comcast deliver easy-to-use, superior data protection at a price designed for small business budgets."

"As we reviewed what is critical to small and medium business customers, cloud backup was a must.  We carefully selected all of the vendors on the Upware marketplace from Comcast Business and believe that Carbonite delivers an excellent backup solution for SMBs that is easy to use and affordable," said Kevin O'Toole, senior vice president/general manager, new business solutions, at Comcast Business Services.

Carbonite allows small businesses to back up data from an unlimited number of computers, external hard drives, NAS devices and Windows servers, with Carbonite Business plans starting at just $229 per year. Comcast Business Class customers avoid cumbersome processes of manually backing up and storing data offsite, with fast and easy installation of Carbonite Business, and backing up happens automatically and continually in the background.  Comcast customers also gain access to advanced features, including:

  • Web-based administrative dashboard:  This simple dashboard can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet and lets the account administrator check the backup status for multiple computers, invite new users and monitor the company's backup storage level.
  • External hard drive and NAS (network attached storage) backup: Businesses can add files and folders saved on an external drive to their online backup and also back up their NAS devices.
  • Windows Server backup: With Carbonite BusinessPremier, users can back up servers running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2011.
  • Private Encryption Key Management: Carbonite Business users have the option to manage their own private encryption key, which allows businesses to experience the benefits of online backup while remaining HIPAA compliant.
Carbonite Business plans are available now on Upware from Comcast Business at business.comcast.com/Upware.
